Perfluorinated compounds Perfluorinated compounds and their derivatives are man-made chemicals that have been used in a wide range of products, including garments and textiles, fabric protection, furniture, and some types of fire-fighting foam. There are three principal contaminants that may be found in contaminated food: PFOS; PFOA and PFHxS. The scientific literature on the effects of these chemicals on people is inconclusive. However, testing on animals has shown some effects at low doses. Piloting the Health Canada-FSANZ Shared Assessment Process
Piloting the Health Canada-FSANZ Shared Assessment Process Health Canada and Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) have been exploring regulatory harmonization and through collaboration have developed a Shared Assessment Process aiming to make the GM food approval processes of both agencies more efficient by reducing assessment time, the resources required and costs. Beginning in 2013, both agencies analysed the feasibility of implementing a collaborative arrangement regarding the pre-market assessment of GM foods.
